The 6-foot-2 point guard’s decision to transfer comes after a notable two-year stint with the Colorado State Rams, where he emerged as a key player

From Colorado State to Carolina

During his sophomore season at Colorado State, Evans started all 36 games, averaging 10.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. He was instrumental in the Rams’ NCAA Tournament run, including a standout performance where he scored a career-high 23 points against Memphis in the first round. Evans also earned All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention honors for his contributions

The departure of Colorado State head coach Niko Medved to Minnesota led to speculation about Evans’ future with the program. However, he chose to transfer to UNC, reportedly due in part to a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) offer exceeding $2 million

A Valuable Addition to UNC

Evans’ exceptional three-point shooting—he connected on 44.6% of his attempts last season—adds a significant scoring threat to the Tar Heels’ backcourt. His versatility and experience are expected to fill the void left by All-American guard RJ Davis, who has exhausted his college eligibility. Evans’ ability to contribute both as a scorer and playmaker makes him a valuable asset to UNC’s lineup.

Looking Ahead

With his transfer to North Carolina, Kyan Evans is poised to make an immediate impact in the Atlantic Coast Conference. His skills and experience will be crucial as the Tar Heels aim to contend for a national championship in the upcoming season.
