The Jacksonville Jaguars are signing former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Fred Johnson. Johnson is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles, where he became a key depth piece for the team and a Super Bowl Champion.

Johnson should have a chance to earn more playing time with the Jaguars. He can play anywhere from tackle to both guard spots, making him a truly versatile depth piece that teams value in the NFL.

When injuries bunched up for the Eagles in 2024, Johnson started six games for the team. He played four games at left tackle and two at right tackle. The Jaguars are signing him to a one-year deal to help strengthen their offensive line depth.

Johnson, an undrafted free agent out of Florida in the 2019 NFL Draft, stayed with the Steelers throughout his first training camp. He made the initial but was released and claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals.

When Johnson did play, he was shaky at best. Pro Football Focus states Johnson allowed a combined five sacks and hurries over his four games at left tackle while filling in for starter Jordan Mailata.

Johnson grew up in Florida, so this represents a return home for the 6-foo-7, 325 pound tackle. If something happens to stater Walker Little with the Jaguars, Johnson may have another chance to be thrust into action for Jacksonville.
