Sights Set on Next Championship: Cashman Chats Yanks After 2,500th Win as GM
New York, April 14, 2025 — As the New York Yankees secured their 2,500th win under Brian Cashman’s tenure, the longtime general manager marked the milestone not with nostalgia, but with focus.
“Every win matters, but we’re not here to count them. We’re here to win the next one—and ultimately, the next championship,” Cashman said postgame, standing outside the clubhouse after the Yankees’ 6-3 victory over the Red Sox.
Cashman, who took over GM duties in 1998, has steered the Yankees through seven World Series appearances and four titles. Now in his 27th season, his leadership has blended big-name signings with a strong farm system, and the 2025 roster reflects that balance.
When asked about the historic win, Cashman deflected praise to the players
and staff. “It’s a team game—always has been. I just try to give them the tools to succeed.”
The Yankees currently sit atop the AL East and are showing the depth and grit needed for a deep October run. For Cashman, 2,500 is just a number. His eyes remain fixed on what truly matters: banner number 28.
“Until we raise another flag in the Bronx,” he said, “the job’s
not done.”
