BREAKING NEWS: Seattle Mariners GM Dan Wilson Invests $7.5 Million to Transform House Into Shelter for Homeless Youth

In a powerful display of compassion and civic responsibility, Seattle Mariners General Manager Dan Wilson has pledged $7.5 million to convert a historic Seattle estate into a long-term shelter and development center for homeless youth.

The project, dubbed “Safe Harbor House,” will offer shelter, education access, mental health support, and life-skills training for youth between the ages of 15 and 24 who are experiencing homelessness or facing housing instability.

“This is personal for me,” Wilson said during a heartfelt press conference held at T-Mobile Park. “Seattle is my home, and no young person should be left out in the cold without a path forward. This is about restoring hope.”

Wilson, a former Mariners catcher and longtime community advocate, has partnered with several local nonprofits, including YouthCare and Mary’s Place, to develop programming tailored to the needs of vulnerable youth. The renovated facility will house up to 75 residents and include classrooms, therapy rooms, and recreation spaces.

Construction is already underway on the property, located in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. City leaders say the shelter will fill a critical gap in transitional housing for youth.

“Dan’s investment is a turning point,” said Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell. “It’s not just about the money—it’s about leadership, compassion, and stepping up when your city needs you.”

Wilson’s initiative is funded through his charitable foundation and personal finances, not through the Mariners organization, though the team has pledged additional support in the form of job internships and community engagement.

Safe Harbor House is expected to open its doors in early 2026.
