BREAKING: BYU Announces $1.3 Billion Transformation of LaVell Edwards Stadium, Elevating the Future of College Football

In a historic announcement that is turning heads across the college football world, Brigham Young University has unveiled plans for a massive $1.3 billion renovation of LaVell Edwards Stadium. The ambitious project is set to redefine the fan experience and establish a new national standard for innovation, luxury, and game-day engagement at the collegiate level.

The renovation—one of the most expensive in college football history—will completely modernize the iconic Provo stadium. Key elements of the overhaul include the introduction of cutting-edge technology, expanded seating capacity, redesigned luxury suites, enhanced fan amenities, and immersive digital features aimed at transforming how fans experience football Saturdays in Utah.

“This is a monumental step for BYU Athletics and for Cougar Nation,” said Athletic Director Tom Holmoe. “Our vision is to create a stadium that not only honors our proud history, but also pushes the boundaries of what a college football venue can offer in the 21st century.”

The upgraded LaVell Edwards Stadium will feature:

  • Expanded Seating & Capacity: The stadium’s seating will increase to more than 75,000, accommodating more fans while ensuring improved comfort, sightlines, and accessibility.
  • Premium Luxury Suites & Hospitality Spaces: State-of-the-art skyboxes, club-level lounges, and VIP experiences will offer fans high-end comfort and exclusive amenities.
  • Smart Stadium Technology: High-speed 5G connectivity, augmented and virtual reality zones, interactive digital displays, and an ultra-HD video board will immerse fans like never before.
  • Sustainability & Eco-Friendly Design: The project will incorporate solar panels, water-saving systems, and sustainable construction materials as part of BYU’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
  • Enhanced Fan Zones: Redesigned concourses, interactive team history exhibits, expanded dining options, and family-friendly entertainment spaces will create an all-day experience for fans of every age.

Construction is set to begin following the conclusion of the 2025 season, with the renovation being completed in stages to allow the Cougars to continue playing home games at the stadium throughout the process.

University President C. Shane Reese emphasized that the project isn’t just about upgrading a facility—it’s about enhancing the university’s culture and community. “LaVell Edwards Stadium has always been a symbol of excellence and unity,” Reese said. “This renovation ensures that future generations of students, athletes, and fans can experience that same pride in a world-class environment.”

Head Coach Kalani Sitake echoed those sentiments, noting how the stadium’s transformation will boost recruiting, player development, and overall program prestige. “This is a statement to the college football world,” Sitake said. “We’re serious about building something lasting, not only on the field but in the lives of everyone who walks through these gates.”

With this monumental investment, BYU is making it clear: the future of college football isn’t just about performance—it’s about innovation, community, and an unforgettable fan experience. LaVell Edwards Stadium is set to become a beacon of what the sport can
