BREAKING NEWS: Indiana Pacers Rising Star Bennedict Mathurin Invests $7.5 Million to Transform House Into Shelter for Homeless Youth

In an inspiring act of generosity and leadership, Indiana Pacers standout Bennedict Mathurin has announced a bold initiative to combat youth homelessness in the city. The 22-year-old guard is investing $7.5 million of his own money to convert a historic Indianapolis mansion into a fully staffed shelter and resource center for homeless and at-risk youth.

The facility, named “Mathurin House,” will offer temporary housing, counseling, educational programs, job training, and on-site medical care to young people aged 16–24 who are experiencing homelessness or have aged out of the foster care system.

“I’ve been blessed with a platform and the means to make a difference,” Mathurin said at a press conference Tuesday morning. “This isn’t just about giving people a place to sleep — it’s about giving them a real chance to rebuild their lives.”

The mansion, originally built in 1910 and located on the city’s near-north side, is undergoing major renovations to accommodate up to 60 residents at a time. Mathurin is working closely with local nonprofits, mental health experts, and formerly homeless individuals to ensure the space is trauma-informed and youth-centered.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett praised Mathurin’s leadership: “What Bennedict is doing goes beyond charity — this is community transformation. He’s setting the example for how athletes can change lives beyond the court.”

Mathurin, originally from Montreal, Canada, has spoken in the past about growing up in a low-income environment and losing his older brother at a young age. His foundation, launched last year, has already supported youth basketball programs and mental health initiatives across North America.

Construction on Mathurin House is expected to be completed by early 2026, with doors opening shortly after.
