The San Francisco 49ers have been surrounded by endless trade buzz due to their impending contract negotiations with star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The 49ers are rumored to move on from Aiyuk, given the two sides are struggling to agree on a new extension. Despite the saga, San Francisco is still making moves to improve their team, bringing in former Detroit Lions safety Tracy Walker.

The 49ers and Walker are working on finalizing a deal, per Ari Meirov. Walker had a workout with SF on Wednesday and is now expected to sign.

Tracy Walker has accumulated 43 career starts with the Lions. He began his Detroit tenure in 2018 when the team selected him in the third round of the draft. After building a solid foundation, Walker exploded during his second year. The Louisiana University product amassed a career-high 82 solo tackles and 21 assists along with one forced fumble and one interception.

Walker maintained stout production for two more years. However, he proceeded to play just three games in 2022 after suffering a devastating Achilles injury. Thankfully, Walker bounced back and comes off a 2023 season with 59 total tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.

The 29-year-old looks to provide serviceable depth to the 49ers defense during the Fall of 2024.

Will 49ers resolve dispute with Brandon Aiyuk?

San Francisco’s Brandon Aiyuk trade rumors have generated great attention. First, reports indicated that the star receiver was more likely than not to be traded. Then, analysts floated several suitors for a potential trade, one of which involved the Las Vegas Raiders.

“A Davante Adams for Brandon Aiyuk trade would make sense if they could rework the final two years of Adams’ deal. Adams could help the 49ers in their SB window and Aiyuk can help the Raiders now and in the future (younger),” Ted Nguyen of the Athletic wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Aiyuk is coming off a career year. He accumulated 1,343 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2023-24 season, averaging 17.9 yards per play. The 26-year-old was a go-to target for star quarterback Brock Purdy. Hopefully, it is not too late for the 49ers’ leadership and Aiyuk to agree on a mutually beneficial contract.

San Francisco needs a dynamic receiver like Aiyuk to continue their strong NFC showing.
