Coventry City have donated over £30,000 to two local charities!
The donations follow the incredible success of the limited edition all-navy fourth kit earlier this year, which City wore for the only time in the Emirates FA Cup tie against Ipswich Town in February.
Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice and Sky Blues in the Community will benefit by £22,000 and £10,000 respectively, after the decision to make a donation from the profits of the kit to these two brilliant causes, and Coventry City Owner and Executive Chairman Doug King presented the two charities with their money prior to the final home game of the season against Middlesbrough.
The incredible shirt was completely navy – with the Coventry City crest, Hummel logo and logo of our sponsors all turning navy, providing an eye catching and stylish look. After being revealed and going on sale in the hours prior to the match, the shirt was completely sold-out within a few hours. We would like to thank Sky Blues fans for purchasing the kit in their droves and helping us to make a real difference to two important local causes.
Zoë’s Place Trust is the only baby hospice in the UK, and provides palliative, respite and end of life care to babies and infants aged from birth to five years suffering from life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. The staff at Zoë’s Place aim to provide care and support 24 hours a day for both the child and family – they offer parents/carers a chance to recharge their batteries or to spend time with their other children. The Hospice is designed to be a ‘home away from home’ in which the children feel comfortable and are able to get the most out of the very special facilities.
Sky Blues in the Community is the charitable arm of Coventry City. The charity works with young people up to adults in the later stages of life, providing a diverse range of programmes and initiatives. This includes sport, improving health and wellbeing, enhance social inclusion, reducing crime and ASB involvement and expanding access to education and training. They currently work with over 2,000 individuals each week and invest over £1 million into our local communities.
Coventry City Owner and Executive Chairman Doug King said:
“Our football club sits at the heart of the community and it is important that we support the foundation of our club in their great endeavors. It is a pleasure also to support Zoe’s Place on this occasion with transformative funds.
“These donations have been enabled by all of our amazing, dedicated fans who snapped up our gorgeous shirt in great numbers. Once again it is the fans that make the difference!”
Lisa Harrison-Byrne, Head of Fundraising at Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice, said:
“There aren’t enough words to express what a donation like this means to Zoe’s Place.
“From everyone here and all the families we support please accept a heartfelt thank you for your unwavering kindness.”
Dave Busst, Head of Community at Sky Blues in the Community, said:
“SBitC were completely overwhelmed when we heard the amount we would be receiving from the Coventry City Fourth Shirt sales. We would like to thank CCFC for the generous donation and we will make sure it goes towards SBitC programmes that we deliver across Coventry and Warwickshire for the benefit of the community.”
