Bad News On Top Bad News: Michigan head coach has just announced

ANN ARBOR, MI – At the College Football Playoff in the Rose Bowl, Michigan football will face a difficult fight from Jalen Hurts and the Alabama offense.

Milroe, a former four-star prospect, is a dual-threat quarterback of the kind the Wolverines haven’t seen this season. He’s “talented, real athletic, freaky,” as Jaylen Harrell described him earlier this week, and he’s not afraid to throw it long; Alabama ranks fourth in pass plays of 40 yards or more. Milroe had 12 rushing touchdowns this season, and his progress during the 2023 season was critical to the Crimson Tide’s return to the CFP.

Michigan defensive coach Jesse Minter discussed Alabama’s issues on Tuesday. Here’s what he had to say about how the Wolverines are preparing, as well as the characteristics of Alabama that are difficult to reproduce in practice:

Every day, we get to play against, I believe, a tremendously good offense to help prepare us for these occasions. Certainly, there have been those teams with skilled players against whom we have had to compete and defend. I don’t believe we’ve seen a quarterback like him before. The closest we’ve seen is in practice with some of our men. Taulia, a scrambler at Maryland, was a similar type of guy. But for a guy like this involved in the run game, his ability to make off-the-cuff plays is invaluable. I think Alex Orji did a fantastic job [simulating Milroe as scout team quarterback] – some of our guys remarked it yesterday. He’s done an outstanding job;

It’s difficult to mimic the offensive line, please understand. You’re referring to 6-7 360, 6-7 360. Nobody is available. Myles Hinton is on our offensive line. So we have nobody — that’s the most difficult thing to imitate, along with the speed of their receivers. So, while the quarterback is crucial, and we’re doing our best to keep him, it’s more difficult to replicate the other positions and quality that they’ve accumulated over the years.

Everyone is aware of how they recruit at such a high level. So that’s the most difficult thing to simulate. We’ll find out if we’re ready on the 1st. To be honest, talking about it is quite cheap at this point. So we’ll find out if we’re ready when the ball is kicked off. I’m optimistic that the attitude our guys have taken and the way they’re working will provide us with an opportunity to succeed.

Drew Allar of Penn State and Kyle McCord of Ohio State, two of the better quarterbacks the Wolverines saw this season, were mostly pocket passers. Though Michigan had a dual-threat quarterback in Tagovailoa early in the season, none had as much potential as Milroe. His ability to scramble aids in the creation of positive plays behind an offensive line that, despite its size, has struggled with pass protection this season.

With the early signing period beginning on Wednesday, Michigan has the majority of its recruiting class in place, but is still looking for a top target.

District Heights (Maryland) Lugard Edokpayi, a four-star edge rusher from Bishop McNamara, has emerged as a late bloomer and watched his profile explode in recent weeks.

The Wolverines recently offered the 6-foot-6, 230-pounder and welcomed him on an official visit last week, but other schools are still interested in signing him.

Here’s the most recent information I’ve received about the matter…

– I’m still confident in my forecast of Lugard Edokpayi to Michigan on the eve of the early signing period, but the coaching staff is still hard at work here.

– The Maize and Blue communicated with the gifted child last night, but they aim to reconnect later today.

– Maryland is the Wolverines’ projected primary competition, and there has been some speculation that the hometown school has gained some ground in this fight.

While the Terrapins have gained momentum, there is still a lot of hope in Ann Arbor, and they appear to be the team to beat.

– It’s also been reported that fellow DMV residents and Michigan commits Dominic Nichols and Devon Baxter have been recruiting Edokpayi to join them.

Michigan leads the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Lugard Edokpayi, with the Wolverines receiving the lone prediction.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Edokpayi is the No. 220 overall prospect in the 2024 class, the No. 18 edge rusher in the country, and the No. 7 player in the state of Maryland for his class.
