Besaking News: Aston Villa agreement could fall through following a £1050 million plan change.

If Villa Park is not refurbished in time, Aston Villa may lose its ability to host Euro 2028 matches, sources have told Football Insider.

The club, based in Birmingham, has postponed its £100 million plans to renovate the stadium following concerns expressed by senior executive Chris Heck.

Heck, the president of business operations at Villa, decided it would be a “bad idea” to reduce capacity for two years, therefore he has put a halt to any plans for expansion.

The original idea was to demolish the North Stand over the course of two seasons and rebuild it with better amenities and a larger capacity, increasing the stadium’s capacity to over 50,000.

But while redevelopment was going on, Villa would have to play in front of barely 36,000 supporters for the following two seasons.

Heck stated: “I don’t think it would be wise to take down one of our stands and play like we do for the next two years. Moving ahead, the focus should be on all of the supporters.

The club is reportedly looking into new strategies to boost capacity and enhance transportation without having an adverse effect on the fan base over the course of two seasons.

Villa Park was selected as one of the ten host locations for the 2028 European Championship, however its inclusion in the list depended on the stadium’s renovation.

It is acknowledged that Villa Park’s hosting privileges could be in jeopardy if the team is unable to expeditiously enhance transportation and facility links; FIFA wants all upgrades finished by the time of Euro 2028.

According to The Athletic, UEFA has previously declared that they anticipate that 80% of spectators will use public transportation to get to Villa Park for Euro 2028 matches.

Uefa is also anticipating improvements to parking facilities, and Villa is already under pressure to complete new plans with a suitable schedule in order to retain their hosting rights for the 2028 European Championship.
