JUST IN: Eagles head coach provides peculiar explanation for late turnover in Seahawks game.

Even though the Philadelphia Eagles lost badly to the Seattle Seahawks two days ago, there is still a lot of controversy around the call on the game’s last play.

With seconds remaining and down by a field goal, 20-17, quarterback Jalen Hurts let up an interception into double coverage, effectively ending the game. Head coach Nick Sirianni responded in an unusual way on Wednesday when asked to describe the team’s and the quarterback’s mental approach.

“We’ve seen pass interference there on occasion,” Sirianni said to reporters through the Eagles.

The Eagles had two timeouts in their pocket and the ball at their own 44-yard line. But instead they went with an all-or-nothing play that Julian Love, the safety, picked up on.

The ball had little chance of succeeding, according to the replays, but Sirianni pressed on, maybe attempting to shield his quarterback.

Hurts’ second atrocious pick of the fourth quarter came late in the game. Hurts took an unnecessary shot toward the end zone on a first-and-10 from midfield with eight minutes remaining, and Love intercepted it. The Eagles were ahead 17–13.

Instead of producing points, the turnover changed the situation. The Seahawks gained the lead for the first time after two possessions, which set up the game-winning play.

Though many have questioned the team’s play calling and Hurts’ decision-making, the defense has also not played up to par. The Eagles reorganized the duties of their defensive coaching staff prior to their loss to the Seahawks.

They gave Matt Patrica playcalling responsibility and relocated coordinator Sean Desai upstairs, with less than optimal outcomes.
Any team that loses three games in a row is going to get criticism, but the Eagles are facing more scrutiny following a strong start.
Formerly regarded as overwhelming favorites to make it back to the Super Bowl, their current form has many thinking an early postseason exit may be in store.
