Nebraska re-sign superstar RHP for a two – year, $17.45 million deal

A late official visit turned into a signing for Miami Central (Fla.) linebacker Vincent Shavers, who signed with the Big Red on Wednesday after visiting the school over the weekend.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Shavers had been a Miami commitment for a long time, but he opened his recruitment on Friday, the same day he traveled on an official visit to the Big Red.

Shavers chose Arizona State over offers from Cincinnati, Florida, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas, and others. He’d been assigned to Miami since May.

Nebraska acted immediately to schedule Shavers’ visit. In the middle of the week, Nebraska’s entire defensive staff, plus defensive quality control staffer Phil Simpson, paid a visit to Shavers in Florida.

Shavers had a successful high school career and will be one of only a few real linebackers in Nebraska’s 2024 recruiting class.

Shavers had 46 tackles (14.0 for loss) and seven sacks in eight games as a senior, according to MaxPreps.

Shavers played his junior year at Miami Monsignor Pace and had 56 tackles. Shavers, regarded as a good pass rusher, had 10 quarterback hurries and eight sacks in 2022. He also broke up two passes and forced two fumbles, as well as intercepting one.

According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings, Shavers is a three-star prospect with an overall rating of 0.8842, putting him as the No. 50 linebacker in the country.

He’s yet another Husker newcomer. According to his father, the linebacker will arrive on school on January 13.

It may be National Signing Day, but there’s never been a better opportunity to get on the Nebraska Cornhusker basketball bandwagon and listen to a Husker247 HoopsCast.

Brian Christopherson and Mike Schaefer discuss Nebraska’s massive win over Kansas State, how the Huskers beat the Wildcats in a rock war, and why this could be a sign of things to come in massive Ten play.

The two then talk about a few of Nebraska’s players this season and how their first 11 or so games have gone for them as the Huskers attempt to wrap up nonconference play before Big Ten competition resumes.

Finally, it’s BC’s turn to pick a random Husker hooper, as Schaefer recalls a player from Barry Collier’s tenure as head coach.

As far as Big Ten schools are concerned, the three-day Early Signing Period is over. We waited out the period since there was speculation that Maryland would trade 5-star OT Jordan Seaton to Colorado, but Seaton confirmed Friday that he had signed with the Buffs and will play his college football under Coach Prime. So it’s finally time to break down each of the classes.

Big Ten recruiting feels a little different this time around, with the conference adding four new clubs, each with a distinct West Coast flavor. Along with that, a couple of new faces at head coach, such as Michigan State’s Jonathan Smith, worked frantically in December to put together their classes. A late switch from a top quarterback heightened the drama around the Big Ten recruiting cycle for the 2024 class. Here we are as the Early Signing Period comes to an end.
