JUST IN: Cowboys Could Bench $89 Million Starter After Worrying Performances

The Dallas Cowboys are struggling from back-to-back road losses, and part of the problem has been terrible passing-game blocking. Dallas has allowed 14 sacks in their la

Steele was one of three Cowboys players to receive a sub-50-point grade in the team’s Christmas Eve loss to the Miami Dolphins. While benching a high-paid player is never ideal, Dallas cannot afford to continue with their current sack rate.

st four games, and Terence Steele’s poor play has played a role in that.

Steele received a $82.5 million, five-year contract this summer but has yet to live up to it. Pro Football Focus has given the veteran lineman a 50.3 rating through 15 games. According to the website, his 7.0 sacks allowed are tied for eighth-most in the NFL.

Aside from poor blocking, the Cowboys appeared to lose sight of their best offensive weapon, CeeDee Lamb. Dallas’ No. 1 receiver got out to a fast start with a 49-yard touchdown catch, but Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott did not target him for nearly two quarters.

After the game, the former Oklahoma Sooner was visibly upset with how he was used. According to Heavy’s Sean Deveney, Lamb described the incident as “weird.”

“They weren’t doing anything,” Lamb told reporters on December 24. “I’m not sure. Just keep me involved if I’m going to be interested, I thought. And in the game, they have to do what they have to do. But I do agree. That second and third quarter were strange. Very strange.”

Lamb’s stat line was nonetheless excellent, with 6 catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. He’s already put up numbers that would make 2023 his finest season yet. But it won’t matter if the Cowboys don’t win critical games.

On the defensive side of the ball, the irritation is palpable. Micah Parsons added another half-sack against the Dolphins, but he was unable to have as much of an impact as he would have liked.

According to The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Parsons expressed his displeasure with the game and the officials.

“It’s mind-blowing, the things that are getting called, and the positions that we get put in,” Parsons said in an interview. “We just need to learn how to deal with adversity.” I realize a lot of it is nonsense, but that’s the world we live in. We have the star on our helmet… It’s very difficult to play defense.”

Dallas limited a potent Dolphins offense to one touchdown. However, Miami moved the ball well enough to score five field goals, including the game-winning field goal from Jason Sanders.
