SAD NEWS: New York Giants star to miss remainder of season with…..

Running back Saquon Barkley appears to be aware that he may only have two games left in his New York Giants career, which began when he was selected second overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

“I feel like everybody is in a different position,” Barkley said to reporters on Thursday, according to Dan Benton of Giants Wire/USA Today. “Some people are aware that this is their final year here. You never know whether you’ll sign back or not. Some of the individuals listed have multi-year contracts. Knowing that the future is somewhat unpredictable, it certainly crosses your thoughts, but I just try to enjoy every moment and go out there and compete with others.

Barkley declined any form of hometown discount from the Giants last summer, but finally signed an amended one-year franchise tag to report to training camp on time. While the fan favorite and team captain turns 27 in February, he has a concerning injury history and is unlikely to get tagged again come March.

According to Patricia Traina of Fan Nation’s Giants Country, re-signing Barkley would cost the organization little more than $12 million in 2024 unless he signed a contract before the June deadline for such deals.
For the 5-10 Giants, general manager Joe Schoen may hit the symbolic reset button in the offseason by selecting a quarterback with a high draft selection to eventually replace 2023.

This Sunday, the Giants will face the 8-7 Los Angeles Rams. ESPN Bet had the Rams as 5.5-point favorites for that game as of late Friday morning.New York will then finish the season at home against the Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 7. If nothing else, Barkley should have two more chances to leave MetLife Stadium as a cherished Giants player.
