Detroit Red Wings star is suffering from career ending injury

Dylan Larkin, captain of the Detroit Red Wings, was injured early in Saturday’s game after being hit in the back of the head.

Larkin collapsed on the ice shortly after the collision, prompting many medical personnel to run onto the ice and bring a stretcher out. Larkin didn’t require the stretcher, but he appeared wobbly as teammates Shayne Gostisbehere and Robby Fabbri assisted him down the tunnel.Larkin fell down with 6:10 remaining in the first period. He was fighting in front of the Ottawa Senators’ goal when Senators winger Mathieu Joseph hit him in the head, smashing him against Senators forward Parker Kelly.

Larkin lay still on the ice, which appeared frightening. He was ultimately able to get to his knees and stand up, allowing him to be helped off without the stretcher.

David Perron went for Senators defenseman Artem Zub immediately after Larkin went down, ending up on top of him on the ice.

Before announcing penalties, officials spent several minutes reviewing replays of the occurrences. Perron, who received a five-minute major for cross-checking and a game misconduct for intent to hurt, received the harshest punishment.

Joseph was given two minutes for roughhousing. Kelly felt the same way. (Larkin and Joseph have a history: Larkin hit Joseph in the head in October 2021, while Joseph was with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Larkin received a match penalty and was suspended by the NHL for one game).

Fans at Little Caesars Arena booed loudly as the calls were made on Saturday. Arena operators had no choice but to show a message on the Jumbotron reminding fans of the league’s stance on a safe atmosphere.

Patrick Kane got the best reaction of all: a minute later, he scored his first goal in a Red Wings uniform, pumping his right first in delight.

This piece first appeared in the Detroit Free Press: The Detroit Red Wings Dylan Larkin has left the Senators game.

During Monday night’s Sugar Bowl coverage, ESPN apologized for showing a woman flashing one of her breasts. The woman was filmed during the third quarter of Washington’s 37-31 victory over Texas. As is customary during major athletic events, ESPN returned from a commercial with a video of a location in the event’s host city. The film in this case came from a camera roaming through New Orleans’ busy French Quarter. A woman was gazing up to the left as the camera moved along the street, revealing her chest.

“We regret this happened and apologize that the video aired during the telecast,” ESPN spokesperson Bill Hofheimer stated in a statement to the Associated Press.

Those parts are usually pre-recorded as production staff collect clips to serve as transition pieces throughout the show. Because the time was brief — if you were watching live, you had to have been paying close attention to see what she did — it appears very possible that the footage was simply not closely viewed by the editing team in charge of integrating the B-roll into the broadcast.
