McCarthy enters the 2024 season with one year remaining on his contract, and despite 12-5 regular-season records in each of the last three years, the Cowboys have won one playoff game during McCarthy’s tenure.

McCarthy being the coach to lead Dallas to its first conference championship game since the 1995 season has not come to fruition, leading some to believe Jones is secretly eager to make a change if that threshold is not met in next year.

‘I don’t want to get into, for reasons of talking about anybody that I may have talked to that’s been bantered around about coaching,’ Jones said. ‘But I didn’t talk to anybody. I haven’t talked to anybody that is a head-coaching candidate other than my own.’

Of course, a Jones-Belichick partnership could only happen in Dallas. And it is at least a year off, if it ever were to happen.
