Oklahoma native and icon of country music Toby Keith passed away on Monday night at the age of 62. Since June 2022, Keith has been fighting stomach cancer. On Tuesday morning, Twitter was used to announce his passing.

 

Keith was a regular attendee of OU athletic events and was open about his affinity for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Brent Venables, the head football coach at Oklahoma, honored Keith on Twitter on Tuesday. Venables shared a picture of himself with Bob Stoops, the former coach of Oklahoma, and Keith.

Because we all know Toby, we are all better.A wonderful man who GAVE to a lot of people. Brother, RIP. Love and [prayers] for his family, Venables wrote on social media.

Toby Keith, country music star and Oklahoma native, dies at 62

Toby Keith consistently gave his all to support the Oklahoma Sooners in sports, whether it was softball, football, or another sport.

Last year, when OU defeated Florida State in the Women’s College World Series, he was present and participated in the postgame festivities alongside the Sooners squad.

Following Oklahoma’s third straight national championship, ESPN’s Holly Rowe captured Keith and the Sooners singing along to his smash song, “How Do You Like Me Now?!” at what looked to be his restaurant, “Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill” in Oklahoma City.

“Natty Patty and the Oklahoma softball team deserve congratulations. seven-time winners. At the moment, Keith tweeted, “Boomer Sooner.”
