It didn’t take long for Joe Barry, the former defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, to find employment.
Barry will take over as the linebackers coach and run game coordinator for the Miami Dolphins. Barry’s defense fell short of expectations in Green Bay, but he has a strong background as a positional coach that has led to several positions as defensive coordinator.
Barry has three NFL clubs under his belt as a linebackers coach, so he has expertise in that area. His success as the linebackers coach for the Los Angeles Rams aided in his hiring as the defensive coordinator for the Packers.
Barry will return to Lambeau Field in 2024, but he will not be a member of the Packers’ defensive staff.
In 2024, Lambeau will host nine games for the Packers. One of their rivals? Yes, that’s right—the Miami Dolphins.
The AFC East team that finished in the same spot as the Packers in their division is the opponent for Green Bay. The Packers’ late-season winning streak put them in second place in the NFC North, where the Dolphins finished in the AFC East. Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets were almost there.
Barry will rejoin the coaching staff of the opposition. Although he won’t be calling plays, he will help develop the game plan to stop the run and get the linebackers ready for the Packers’ offensive style.
