SAD AND BAD NEWS : Mets ‘Stand Out’ To Get Free Agent Former Yankees Slugger….

It appears as though the New York Mets will add further offensive talent during the offseason.

New York Mets Say Yoenis Céspedes "Has Opted Out Of the 2020 Season"J.D. Martinez, an All-Star slugger, and New York have lately discussed Martinez’s potential joining the team. Martinez has been linked to several players.

There are many possibilities available with which New York has been associated. Gio Urshela, a former slugger with the Cleveland Guardians, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins, and Los Angeles Angels, has recently been linked to the Mets. While it’s unclear if a move would occur, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi again mentioned New York as a possibility on Wednesday.

“I was told this week that three teams in particular stand out as in having interest in Urshela,” Morosi stated. “The Miami Marlins, the Yankees, and the Mets…At his peak, Gio Urshela was on track to have a very successful season, hitting close to.300, and it feels like the Mets may acquire a big offensive element. I’ve always appreciated the contributions he makes to a team, and there are parallels between his work and Wilmer Flores’s contributions to a baseball team. I think he has a lot of potential.”

The Mets might make a very intriguing trade for Urshela. Compared to Martinez, he would be far less expensive and still deliver strong offensive play. Besides, he wouldn’t have to limit his contributions to the club’s designated hitter role; he could assist out anywhere on the diamond.

Although it seems that the Mets will face competition for Urshela, signing him could be a wise move.
