SAD NEWS; Rumors about J.D. Martinez: New York Mets

In 2023, J.D. Martinez had a crucial role as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ regular designated hitter; but, with the addition of Shohei Ohtani, Martinez will no longer have a spot on the roster.

Martinez is still one of the better free agents available, and after proving his worth to the Dodgers, he should be able to land a long-term deal.

Thus far, the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels, New York Mets, and Arizona Diamondbacks have expressed interest in the 36-year-old.

Since expressing interest in Martinez, the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks have both signed Justin Turner and Joc Pederson, respectively, to satisfy their needs for a designated hitter.

Martinez was selected as the starting DH for the National League All-Star squad in 2023. He concluded the season hitting for the Dodgers after having an excellent season overall.With 61 runs scored, 103 RBI, 271/.321/.572, 33 home runs, and a 135 wRC+.

For the first time since 2019, Martinez surpassed 30 home runs and 100 RBI. The Dodgers had four players who drove in at least 100 runs in the previous campaign, including Martinez. Max Muncy (105), Martinez (103) and Freeman (102) were in the group led by Betts (107 RBI).

Before spending a few games out of the Dodgers lineup due to a persistent groin/adductor ailment, Martinez had dealt with a 10-day injured list stint. The seasoned slugger also missed time due to lower back discomfort in late April and early May.
