Cody Ramsey’s budding NRL career with St George Illawarra has been interrupted by major health issues, and he will miss his second straight year of rugby league.

In an effort to treat his ulcerative colitis, Ramsey underwent numerous procedures after being admitted to the hospital in 2022.

“We won’t see him play this year,” the new Dragons coach, Shane Flanagan, told SEN.

“He’s had a real battle with his illness and then post-illness, he just seems to be getting on top of it and then he gets another infection.

“He’s been in and out of hospital a lot of times – he’s lost a lot of weight.”

When Ramsey felt pain in his stomach during a lengthy run during preseason training under former coach Anthony Griffin, he was first sent to the hospital.

Ben Haran, the general manager of football for the team, subsequently said that he would be out of commission for an undisclosed amount of time due to an inflammatory bowel disease.

“He’s much better now,” Flanagan said while giving Ramsey’s most recent status.

It’s wonderful that he and his partner recently welcomed a baby, and now his priority is taking care of their small family.
