SAD NEWS:Phil Gould criticizes Benji Marshall’s appointment in Wests Tigers NRL news….

The Wests Tigers’ choice to hire Benji Marshall as head coach has drawn criticism from Phil Gould, who acknowledged that it will be a “massive ask” for the team legend to make things right.Tigers: The world's largest cats | Live Science

Another serious blow to the struggling team comes from Tim Sheens’ decision to resign from his position one year into the team’s five-year plan, giving Marshall—who has less than a year’s worth of NRL coaching experience—the opportunity to take over.

The rugby league guru and current Bulldogs boss, Gus, acknowledged on the most recent episode of Six Tackles With Gus that it was a perplexing move to split ways with Sheens and put Marshall in the public eye.

“I wonder what they thought the immediate results were going to be, if in fact it’s the club that has pushed him out,” he stated.

“Surely Tim Sheens and Benji weren’t going to be assessed based on the team’s success this season? If anyone is following the football, a strong team is starting to emerge. They will improve since they have some wonderful children.

“Now, who keeps Benji safe? Will someone be assigned to that position to assist Benji? I would like to know how Benji is doing.

Tigers fans haven’t had much to rejoice about on the field since the 38-year-old returned to Concord last season and gave up his media duties to concentrate on being an assistant under his former boss.

Although Marshall and Sheens gave the team a wealth of potential going into 2023, they have only won three games this season and appear headed for a second straight wooden spoon.
