The Green Bay Packers, who have been led by Mark Murphy as president and CEO since 2007, recently revealed the specifics of their hiring procedure. According to organizational bylaws, Murphy must reach the necessary retirement age of 70 in July 2025, at which point he will legally retire.
The lead director and vice president of the Packers executive committee, Susan Finco, chairs the board of directors’ search committee. Vice-chair of the search committee is Dan Ariens, secretary of the executive committee and chair of the personnel and compensation committee.
“Mark’s contributions to the organization have been tremendous,” Finco stated. “Mark keeps setting up the Packers for success, from modernizing the corporate leadership structure to expanding and diversifying revenue to enhancing the team’s significant community influence. Over the next 18 months, we anticipate his astute leadership.”
The search committee consists of Finco and Ariens as well as a wide range of industry and talent representation from the board. Mike Simmer, the treasurer; DJ Long, the executive committee chair; Marcia Anderson, the executive committee chair; Karl Schmidt, the executive committee chair; Michael Barber, the chair of the Packers Foundation; Jeff Joerres, the chair of the investment committee; Eddie Garcia, the former player and at-large board member; Robyn Davis, the board member at-large; and MikeDaniels (at-large board member).
The highly acclaimed national search company Korn Ferry, with whom the organization has previously collaborated, is assisting the search committee. Leading the Korn Ferry team is Jed Hughes, who has decades of elite search experience and has collaborated with the Packers on prior elite searches, such as the one that concluded Murphy should be Bob Harlan’s replacement in 2007.
“We have a long and positive history with the Green Bay Packers and are pleased to be working with the search committee to identify their next leader of this unique and storied franchise,” Hughes stated. “We take pride in having more than 50 years of experience working with the NFL and its teams.” The Korn Ferry team also comprises Garrick Yu, Divina Gamble, and Tierney Remick in addition to Hughes.
“Our search committee takes this responsibility very seriously as our new leader will shape the Packers’ future,” Ariens stated. “We are happy to be working with Jed Hughes and his team on this significant process, which we have been preparing for over the past few months. It will be thorough and compliant with all NFL regulations.”
