BAD NEWS: Jerry Jones of the cowboys is not considering Michael A. McCarthy.

At a press conference on Sunday, Jones stated, “I don’t anticipate that being an issue at all,” according to the team website. “They will be the Cowboys’ coordinator if they accept the position.

They would be examining that immediately along with everything that goes with it. As the person who recently departed is a head coach, so prospective coaches are aware that there is a chance to hold that position somewhere.”

Prospective candidates fear that if Dallas doesn’t win a title after the next season, McCarthy may decide not to return, especially because Jones has already given an all-in mandate for 2024.

A new head coach would be required in such a case, and it is likely that he would prefer a staff that is mostly composed of his choice.

However, Jones makes a valid point regarding the history of Dallas DC jobs, and the defense is loaded with players primed for a Super Bowl run.

After Quinn was fired as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons during the 2020 season, he utilized the position as a launching pad. He started working with McCarthy in 2021 and twice led the defense to a fifth-place finish in scoring.

Because of his apparent abilities, he was hired as a head coach by the NFC East for a second time.

“I felt ultimately two years ago that Dan wanted a head coaching job, so it doesn’t surprise me that he’s landed a head coaching job,” Jones stated. “I couldn’t have predicted the future with a crystal ball back then, but the fact that he has head coaching experience and has been to a Super Bowl doesn’t surprise me.

The Cowboys have 36 regular-season victories since 2021, despite having reached the same agonizing dead end under McCarthy that has been since the late 1990s—not making it past the NFC Divisional Round for 28 years.
