Lansing, Mich. (Will) – Six of the 16 people accused in the fake elector scheme of submitting false certificates and confirming themselves as legitimate electors for the state were in court for a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning.

In April, a group of people from Michigan who were accused of trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election in favor of former President Donald Trump will be in court for their preliminary exams.

In 2023, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nesselrode charged 16 people in a fake elector scheme, accusing them of submitting false certificates and confirming themselves as legitimate electors for the state of Michigan.

Each defendant faces eight criminal charges and faces up to 14 years in prison.
