Following the Chiefs parade on Wednesday, which attracted an estimated one million spectators, terrified Chiefs supporters fled for cover after learning of the fatal shooting on the west side of Union Station. On Friday, authorities announced that two adolescents would be charged in connection with the incident.

The alleged teens “hurt innocent people” and “simultaneously scarred an entire community,” according to Kansas City police chief Stacey Graves, on Friday. The incident occurred after a happy afternoon turned terrifying due to shooting that was misinterpreted for fireworks.The Kansas City Chiefs this week welcomed the still hurting town by presenting emergency funding for victims and families and visiting injured youngsters in the hospital. Some of the Chiefs remained on the stage after the rally finished and the sounds of gunfire pierced the air.

A law enforcement source told CNN on Friday that investigators, who have found many guns at the scene, are still piecing together what happened on Wednesday. They believe that examining recovered bullets will assist identify the pistol that caused the injuries and death.

As per the Gun Violence Archive, which, like CNN, includes instances in which four or more are killed, the shooting on Wednesday was at least the 48th mass shooting to occur in the US this year.
