SAD NEWS: The Lakers are surging ahead of a potential tournament bid.

(County of La Porte, IN) – On Tuesday, the La Lumiere college prep boys basketball team defeated a strong Chicago team at home with an almost effortless victory.

CPSA held the game close until very late in the first quarter, when the Lakers started to pull away thanks to fast baskets from 6’4″ Melvin Bell, Jr., who grabbed an offensive rebound, and 6’5″ Darius Adams, who made a three-pointer.

The scrappy play of their opponents presented some difficulties early on, according to head coach Pat Holmes.

“Our team made the necessary adjustments. We were very decent after that; it took us about four or five minutes to kind of figure it out,” he remarked.

 

Seven’0″ Steve Solano got La Lumiere’s second quarter underway, grabbing an inbounds pass and soaring high for a massive slam dunk. But the Lakers’ 12-point advantage was quickly whittled down to seven points.

After that, the Lakers scored 17 of the next 19 points, thanks in part to multiple baskets by 6’4″ Jerry Easter, II. Bell’s and 6’7″ Jalen Haralson’s back-to-back slam dunks sealed the victory.

At the buzzer for halftime, Solano made another slam dunk off a pass, extending the lead to 23 points.

Halfway through the third quarter, the Lakers outscored the opposition by seven points, seemingly ending any possibility for a comeback. Adams’ three-pointer was the last nail in the coffin, and it was followed by
