How fitting that the first weekend of the year should end.

Following an exciting victory over ninth-ranked Tennessee on Saturday night, Oklahoma had to get back to work for an early Sunday morning game against Nebraska at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

After the swift turnaround, the Sooners had a bit of a slow start, but they had an amazing finish, coming back from a four-run deficit to surprise the  with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning by true freshman shortstop Jaxon . OU managed to turn the Shriners Children’s College Showdown into a successful weekend, despite the fact that it required contributions from every player on the roster to get it done.

 

Left-hander James , who was starting his second season in crimson and cream, got the ball to end the weekend. was hoping to build on a strong finish from last year. In this one, the former Texas Tech transfer came out swinging and racking up strikeouts.

 

had struck out nine hitters from Nebraska through four innings and hadn’t given up an earned run against him. However, things would not go as well in the fifth frame. otherwise excellent first outing of the season was marred by the ‘ roughing up of the lefty, who gave up three runs on four hits.

Following an exciting victory over No. 9 Tennessee on Saturday night, Oklahoma had to get back to work for an early Sunday morning game at Globe Life Field against Nebraska.

 

Oklahoma would carry on their comeback in the seventh inning after Nebraska scored one run in the sixth. hit a two-run home run to right field for OU’s first of the season. is anticipated to be a key source of power for the Sooners this season. The huge swing brought Oklahoma within one run, 6 to 5.

The Sooners needed a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to survive, as they were unable to muster any more offense in the eighth. Center fielder John  got the rally going, as he so frequently has throughout his career in Norman.

opened the ninth inning with a single to left, one night after he had the game-winning hit against the Volunteers. Still,

Michael Snyder, a Washington transfer third baseman, would then produce one of his greatest swings to date, ripping a double into left field to score from first base. But with the score tied, OU was content to wrap things up right away rather than go to extra innings again.

With the bases loaded and two outs, true freshman shortstop Jaxon  faced the ball after Nebraska purposefully walked Garza-Gongora and hit Kendall Pettis.

As they say, the rest is history. With a spectacular single up the middle, the phenom brought the game to a close and scored Snyder. The exciting victory will likely live on in Oklahoma for a long time and may even be the

 

Even though Oklahoma’s weekend in Arlington is over, they won’t be returning home just yet. After skipping Monday’s game, the Sooners will be back south of the Red River for a Tuesday night matchup with Dallas Baptist.

 

OU softball sweeps Central Arkansas in the Cowgirl Challenge, winning 62 straight games.
Overall, the Sooners dominated Central Arkansas 8-0 in five innings on Sunday, simply keeping up their winning ways. After winning five games in a row at the Cowgirl Challenge in Lake Charles, Louisiana, OU extended its NCAA record winning streak to 62 games. OU last suffered a defeat on February 19, 2023.

The OU freshman took a big swing as soon as she saw the first pitch of her at-bat arrive. The ball soared over the outfield wall after Parker made contact with it.

OU clears the bench and meets a Sooner at home plate after they hit a home run, as is customary. The group was a little more excited about this one, though. And with good cause.

 

Parker hit her first home run of her college career in the fourth inning, giving the Sooners a seven-run lead.

Then, in the third inning, OU scored five runs to take a commanding lead. Sanders’ two-run single got things started. Riley then followed with an RBI single, after Alyssa had hit an RBI double. And to make it 6-0, Jennings launched her 77th career two-run home run to center field.

Former Oklahoma State pitcher Bailie Runner was forced out of the game by Jennings’ home run for Central Arkansas.

To end the game in the fifth, Coleman drew a walk with two men on base.

On Sunday, pitchers Kelly Maxwell, SJ , and   combined for the shutout.

The Sooners pitching staff has been outstanding during the Challenge. Throughout the course of the five games, the squad gave up just one run, and several Sooners achieved career highs. The Sooners played two double headers during the three-day Challenge.

 

Deal recorded her first collegiate shutout against Lamar and finished with a career-high 10 strikeouts in her five innings pitched in the doubleheader on Saturday. Additionally, Nicole May gave up just four hits while pitching a 3-0 shutout against State. Even so, it wasn’t her best excursion.

OU defeated Central Arkansas 9-0 to start the Challenge on Friday’s doubleheader. Against Central Arkansas (2-5), May recorded her 50th college victory with six strikeouts over 4.0 innings pitched without giving up a run.

After that, OU defeated  State 8-1, with pitcher Kelly Maxwell advancing to 3-0 after recording 8 strikeouts in her outing.
