Four Indicators That Point To Auburn’s 2025 Class of Prospects Getting to Know “Elite”

Auburn’s journey to become a top recruiting program won’t be simple.

Auburn will face numerous challenges, including all-too-familiar rivals in the recruiting game, but the team needs to overcome numerous formidable

obstacles in order to have the recruiting success necessary to be a regular contender for the SEC and national championship.

These are the four obstacles the Tigers must overcome in order to have a top-tier recruiting class in 2025.

1) Alabama must be won by the Tigers. Five in-state recruits were chosen in the 2023 NFL Draft, according to Max Preps. Twelve former Alabama prep players were selected in the 2022 Draft.

Auburn needs to perform at its highest level in the state of Alabama, where 11 of the Tigers’ 2024 signers are from. The Auburn team did an amazing job on that.

Now, keep going in that direction and add a few more truly dominant players like Elba (Ala.) High School’s Alvin Henderson, an outstanding in-state running back, and hopefully elite

defenders like Eric Winters, a hybrid linebacker/safety, and Zion Grady of Enterprise (Ala.) High School, who play defensive end and defensive end, respectively.

2) Sign even more outstanding Georgia recruits. Auburn’s main rival, though, is the Peach State, with the Yellowhammer State coming in second. The fact that 23 former Georgia prep players were selected in the previous draft shows

how talented people are in that state. Furthermore, according to the NFL’s Play Football website, it is the top state for NFL talent per capita. Just to be clear,

Auburn does a good job of recruiting Georgia. Is winning an SEC title sufficient? No, not just yet. The quantity of Georgia recruits signing with Auburn is not the only factor to consider. More outstanding talent must arrive on the

Plains. In the 2025 class, Auburn must regularly select one of the top five players in Georgia, and it must keep up this trend from there.

Georgians make up two of Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class players. Rivals ranks offensive tackle Favour Edwin at #58 and cornerback Jalyn Crawford at #15 for the team. The Tigers are adding two players with a lot of potential, but they still need more top players from the state next door.

3) As mentioned in the article from yesterday, Auburn cannot become a top recruiting program unless it wins more significant recruiting contests against Georgia, Alabama, and LSU.

The majority of those fights will happen in the neighborhood. These conflicts will probably spread to two other adjacent states, such as Mississippi.

Signing Rivals’ #143 player in Skylines Dear would be fantastic because he’s an elite running back recruit. Keeping him away from Alabama, Georgia, and LSU is also something to think about. Plus, for good measure, beating Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss for arguably Mississippi’s top in-state recruit, that’s a nice bonus.

There are plenty of other recruits throughout SEC country that Auburn is going to go head-to-head with the Tide, Dawgs, and Bayou Bengals, among other top recruiting programs. The Tigers lost far too many of those same types of recruiting frays before Hugh Freeze and the current staff arrived on campus.

4) Nearly every top recruiting class has one or more recruiting victories, if not more, that were not initially anticipated to go to that school. In 2024, Auburn experienced a similar level of success when they traded for defensive lineman Amaris Williams, a Gators commitment, and edge rusher Jamonta Waller, a Florida commitment. Waller arrived from Rivals ranked #70, and Williams would rank #68.

This is the exciting, unstructured aspect of hiring. Which recruit or recruits ultimately sign with Auburn that, as of right now, no one really believes Auburn will sign? Remember that Auburn defeated Waller and Williams by coming back from behind.

Perhaps Auburn will surprise everyone by signing quarterback Julian Lewis, ranked second by rivals. The Tigers aren’t the clear choice for the current Southern California commit; Georgia and Alabama are putting in a lot of effort to get him to sign.

Maybe it will be defeating Georgia for defensive lineman Justus Terry, the #11 recruit for the Rivals, or Alabama, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State for the team’s #17 recruit, outstanding wide receiver Caleb Cunningham.

There are many choices. To get where it wants to go, Auburn must pull off some upsets in the recruiting process.
