Philadelphia Eagles: Is Chase Young Set to Take Over for Haason Reddick in 2024?

The future of the Philadelphia Eagles’ stop unit is not looking good right now. First, it’s widely anticipated that Reddick, who has reportedly requested a trade,

and Fletcher Fox will both leave the team. However, the Eagles could be able to replace any losses through free

agency. Chase Young, a defensive end who saw action in 2023 for both the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders, may be that player for Reddick.

During the trade deadline of the previous season, the Washington Commanders traded their second overall pick of 2020 to the . In addition to adding a sack and

two QB hits during San Francisco’s Super Bowl run, he finished the season with 7.5 sacks. Notably, he

participated in 19 games—including postseason games—after being sidelined by injuries for just 12 games in the preceding two seasons.

Reddick has 27 regular-season sacks in his two years in Philadelphia, so it would be difficult to replace his production if he leaves, but the Eagles have been

reluctant to give Reddick the raise he has been asking for up to this point. Young still has a lot of potential and is probably available for a reasonable price.

The 49ers acquired Young from the Commanders in October in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The former Ohio State Buckeyes standout and second-overall pick had 2.5 sacks, 10

combined tackles, and six quarterback hits in nine games with the 49ers. He had 7.5 sacks overall in 16 games in 2023.

Young appears to be healthy now, as McManus noted, despite missing a significant number of games in 2021 and 2022 due to injuries.

In 34 games (all starts), Reddick totaled 27.0 sacks, 49 QB hits, four passes defensed, and five forced fumbles. He will be difficult to replace in Philly.

However, in a reworked contract, the Philadelphia Eagles might not be willing to offer him more money. How the

Reddick saga plays out this is still to be seen, but in the event that Reddick is traded before the 2024 campaign, the Eagles will have free agency options to consider.
