Jeff Hafley, the new defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, had his first meeting with state media on Thursday.

Hafley went 22-26 during his four seasons with the Eagles, including a 9-15 mark the last two years. Hafley was clearly on the hot seat at BC this upcoming season, but by leaving for the NFL now, he gets a fresh start.

Hafley replaced Joe Barry, whose defenses the last three years were remarkably ordinary.

Hafley discussed a bevy of topics. Here were the five biggest takeaways.

It will be the first time since the 2008 season that Green Bay has played with a 4-3 defense under Hafley. But simplicity will be the main focus of his plan.

“It’s our responsibility to use strategy to position the players for maximum success and playmaking, right? said Hafley. “The plan is intricate, despite the fact that many parts of it may seem simpler.

We strive to simplify things for the players so they can play quickly, without having to think about it, confidently, and without fear of making mistakes. This way, I can provide them with the knowledge they require and they can play fearlessly in the real world.

Hafley remarked, “Not every snap, but I like press people.” In my opinion, defense is all about putting your players in the greatest possible position to succeed, whether of whether you’re playing 4-3 or 3-4, press man, which I absolutely adore, zone coverages, vision and break, quarters, or matches. And are you able to make the most of your players’ abilities? I mean, every player wants to improve, and it is our responsibility to do so.
