Wyoming News Now (CHEYENNE, Wyoming) – The 2024 East-Central rivalry concluded on Friday night in southeast Wyoming, and the 2A East regional in Burns began on Saturday.

The top-ranked Lady T-Birds took on the fifth-ranked Lady Indians in the first of two back-to-back ranked games at Storey Gym.

During a back-and-forth period in the first quarter and a half of the game, neither team was able to draw away from the other.

That changed as the half wore on; East went on the offensive and accumulated a 14-point advantage at the intermission.

For the last sixteen minutes, Bradie Schlabs dominated, scoring 21 points in just the second half. Consequently, the Lady T-Birds managed to retain the Lady Indians.

with a score of 71-60 to finish the season sweep at arm’s length. Both teams had a few standout individual performances; Schlabs led all scorers with 35 points, and Cash Haws contributed 20 for the East, while Izzy Kelly scored 21 points and Martina Pla Guix added 13 for the Central squad.

Two of the top three 4A teams squared off in the boys’ match as top-seeded Central attempted to defeat the third-seeded T-Birds for the second time this year.

Chase Talich of the Indians had a fantastic first quarter, going 5 for 5 from beyond the three-point arc and scoring a game-high 17 points.

Sam Shumway then contributed 14 points in the second quarter to aidthey had a halftime advantage, and it appeared like they would easily win.

East had other ideas, though, as they rallied to cut the deficit to just two points in the second half behind Cam Hayes and Drew Jackson.

In the end, Central managed to maintain their lead, winning 78-72 in what will go down as another instant classic between the two teams.

For the Indians, Hayes led East with 27 points, while Jackson finished with 14. Talich led the way with a game-high 29 points, Shumway scored 19, and Mason Tafoya added 15.

At Burns High School on Day 2 of 2A East Regional Action, there were upsets and second-half runs.
