Concerned About the Michigan Convention and Primary? You’re Not by Yourself.

To choose presidential delegates, Republicans will hold a statewide nominating convention on March 2 in addition to a primary on February 27.When voters there cast their primary ballots on Tuesday and again when Republicans have a second contest four days later, Michigan will be in the political spotlight.

This year, the party implemented a new and rather perplexing hybrid nominating procedure, which will culminate in a statewide nominating convention on March 2.

Rival groups inside the state Republican Party have emerged from the mutiny, each promising to host its own convention—although the national party would only acknowledge one of them.

How do I vote, and when are the Michigan convention and primary?
Republican and Democratic primary votes will be cast in Michigan on February 27. On March 2, the Republican Party of the state will also have a nomination convention.

Each congressional district will receive three delegates from the Republicans. All three will go to the candidate with the largest percentage of the vote; a plurality will go to two candidates, and the second-place finisher will go to one.

In addition, the group will “confirm” Tuesday’s primary results and distribute the remaining 16 delegates accordingly.

The state’s political rivalry is the backdrop against which all of this is taking place.
