The Los Angeles Lakers are counting on Spencer Dinwiddie to quickly adjust to their system at this crucial point in the season. But since joining the Lakers via the buyout market on February 10, Dinwiddie has had trouble establishing himself as a player.

Dinwiddie has averaged a meager 4.8 points in 25.0 minutes per game in his first five Lakers games. His field goal and three-point percentage are both dismal, at only 31.0% and 23.5%, respectively. In addition, since joining the Lakers, his assists per 36 minutes have decreased from 7.0 with the Brooklyn Nets to 4.9.

I told him that sometimes you simply have to go outside and hoop.
Regarding Spencer Dinwiddie’s adjustment to the Lakers, I questioned Darvin Ham:

Assistant coach Ham underlined how crucial it is for Dinwiddie to just play the game without thinking too much. The Lakers organization, including the players and coaching staff, continues to believe in Dinwiddie’s potential influence despite his struggles to produce regular stats.

The difficulty was evident in the Lakers’ most recent defeat to the Phoenix Suns, as their defense rebounding was a major problem. Even though Ham had access to younger, more skilled rebounders like Max Christie and Jaxson Hayes, he chose to use Taurean Prince and Dinwiddie, who have both had less success rebounding. This choice brought to light the delicate balancing act the Lakers must perform in order to manage urgent demands and include Dinwiddie into pivotal game circumstances.

Dinwiddie is a key asset because of his experience and scoring prowess, but the Lakers must carefully consider their options as they fight to qualify for the playoffs despite a challenging schedule. Despite his youth, Christie provides a strong option because of his defense skills, shooting ability, experience with the team’s strategy, and more reliable play.
