On her way back, an ice hockey player gets into an accident…..

According to authorities, a guy who was detained on suspicion of manslaughter after an ice hockey player died during a game has been released.

Adam Johnson of the Nottingham Panthers passed away in October of last year during a game at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena where he was struck in the neck by a skate from an opposing player.

Following the event, the 29-year-old Mr. Johnson was given medical attention, and the 8,000-strong crowd was asked to depart. The game was abandoned. The hospital declared him deceased.

South Yorkshire Police had detained a man on suspicion of manslaughter on November 14 and had since released him on bail.

He was rebailed on Friday until April 25, 2024, according to a statement.

“At this time, our thoughts remain with Adam’s family,” the army declared.

Tanyka Rawden, Sheffield’s senior coroner, put a halt to her investigation into Mr. Johnson’s death last month while the police investigation proceeded.

The inquest opened quickly, but it was later revealed that Ms. Rawden had written a report to Ice Hockey UK and the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) regarding the use of neck guards in the sport regarding the Prevention of Future Deaths.

She stated in the report that she was “sufficiently concerned that deaths may occur in the future if neck guards or protectors are not worn” and that the UK governing bodies of ice hockey had been given 56 days to respond with what measures they had taken or hadn’t taken.

Although the Elite League, which includes the Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers, is outside of its jurisdiction, the EIHA has declared that neck guards will be required in all of its games starting in 2024.

The league has stated that while it “strongly encourages” players and officials to wear neck protectors, it would not make them mandatory.
