After exploring a summer transfer for the Spaniard, Nico Williams of Manchester United, Chelsea has been keeping a close eye on him, according to Fabrizio Romano.Man Utd willing to sell Brandon Williams in £10m transfer with defender surplus to requirements at Old Trafford | The Irish Sun

The London team is “following” Williams’ progress at Athletic Club, according to the Italian transfer guru, who also says Williams was “on their list” in case they weren’t able to sign Cole Palmer from Manchester City last year.

In twenty-two games this season in La Liga, the 21-year-old has contributed six assists and three goals.

But Williams shines most when it comes to his dribbling technique

The Spaniard places in the 97th percentile for successful take-ons and the 93rd percentile for advanced carries. He dribbles the ball 2.9 times per game on average, second only to Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid. Williams has also won three penalties this season, which is the most in La Liga.

Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic are five points outside of Champions League qualification right now, in fifth position. They also advanced to the Copa del Rey final after easily defeating Atletico Madrid in the semifinals thanks to a strong 4-0 aggregate score.

Athletic have been comfortably the best team in Spain outside the top four this season, comprising the traditional ‘big three’ and unlikely title pushers Girona; and Williams’ efforts – electric and exciting in equal measure – have played a large part in his side’s success.

Romano reveals Williams has a release clause of €50 million in his contract – a figure his potential will suitors will be required to meet should they wish to sign him, given Athletic’s “clause or nothing” approach to selling players.
