After a SWAT reaction in Ashburn, a man shot by Chicago police was brought into custody: source

HICAGO: According to a police source, a guy who was shot by a Chicago police officer on Saturday was placed under arrest after a SWAT reaction in the South Side community of Ashburn.

Moments after 3 p.m., the Sun-Times was informed by a police source that the city’s Shotspotter gunshot detection system had detected gunfire, prompting an initial response from the police.

Approximately 4:15 p.m., the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which looks into use of force occurrences, posted that it was looking into a shooting involving an officer in the 8000 block of South Western Avenue.

After more than six hours, not much information about the shooting was available.

A police department spokesman stated that the matter was still under investigation but would not elaborate or provide an estimated time frame for the release of additional information.

The source claimed that after negotiating with police, the individual who had barricaded himself inside a building was taken into custody at approximately 7:30 p.m. The man was subsequently transferred to a hospital, where his condition was classified as fair.
