Hurricanes pull ahead of Flames with a large lead.

The Carolina Hurricanes thrashed the Calgary Flames 7-2 on Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina, with goals and two helpers apiece from Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Teuvo Teravainen. The Hurricanes won their third straight game and fifth in their previous six. Other goals for the team came from Jordan Martinook, Jalen Chatfield, Brent Burns, and Seth Jarvis. In addition, Chatfield and Jarvis contributed assists, while Jordan Staal and Jesperi Kotkaniemi each contributed two assists. Goalie Frederik Andersen of Carolina, who made 17 stops, improved to 2-0 after coming back from a more than four-month absence due to a blood clotting problem. After two periods, the Hurricanes scored six goals on thirty shots.

 

Before the Flames scored, the score was 4-0. Yegor Sharangovich and Dryden Hunt got the goals for Calgary. For the Flames, Dan Vladar played the entire game in goal, making 33 saves. With his third goal, Hunt gave the Flames the lead 4:11 into the second half, but Carolina quickly picked up steam. Burns extended the Hurricanes’ lead to 5-1 with his 10th goal of the season, his first in nine games. With 34 seconds remaining in the second half, Jarvis scored his 20th goal

Four minutes and fifty-four seconds into the third period, harangovich scored his 27th goal on an unassisted effort after Andersen mishandled the puck. The result exacted revenge for Carolina’s Dec. 7 road defeat of 3-2. Before suffering crushing losses on consecutive days, the Flames had won six of their previous seven games.
