In order to be ready for the 2024–25 season, the Houston Texans are placing a high priority on strengthening their defense. Consequently, Houston has acquired former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Danielle Hunter in a major NFL free agency move.

Ian Rapoport reports that Houston and Danielle Hunter have reached a two-year, $49 million agreement, of which $48 million is completely guaranteed. Houston’s defense will benefit greatly from the four-time Pro Bowler.

In the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Hunter was originally selected by the Vikings. Hunter made steady progress and had a breakthrough campaign in 2018. Along with 14.5 sacks, he totaled 71 tackles. Hunter’s impressive performance earned him a spot in his first Pro Bowl.

Then, in 2019, the former LSU football great almost exactly duplicated his 2018 output by winning a second Pro Bowl selection. But it was Hunter’s performance in 2022 and 2023 that won the Texans over.

Hunter repeated the feat in 2023 with a career year, having been selected for his third Pro Bowl the year before. He had 83 tackles, 16.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles in his final season; the last two were’

Hunter will be a fantastic addition to the highly ambitious Texans club.

With a 10-7 record at the end of the 23–24 season, Houston was the best club in the AFC South. CJ Stroud, the rookie quarterback, had all eyes on him. Leading the Texans to the second round of the NFL Playoffs, Stroud enjoyed a successful season.

With Stroud, Danielle Hunter, and other key players coming back during NFL free agency, the Texans should perform better in 2024.
