Although the former Pro Bowler joined the Pittsburgh Steelers to try his hand at starting at quarterback, Russell Wilson stated on Friday that it isn’t his main focus.

“I approach my work with the intention of always being the best version of myself. “I believe that’s the plan at all times,” Wilson told Pittsburgh media. “My goal is to support our football team in winning. I believe the quarterback’s job is to assist.

Wilson dodged questions about whether he received any guarantees that he would start the game time and time again.

“Every day you wake up, you look forward to helping the team win,” he stated. “To be honest, I think that’s what I’m focusing on right now. Although I’ve had a lot of success and have been in this

league for a long time, there’s still work to be done. And my thoughts are focused there.”

Wilson and Pickett are anticipated to engage in a combative training camp competition for the opening position in the starting lineup.

Wilson was released by the Broncos with a $88 million debt, which allowed the Steelers to sign him for the veteran minimum of 70.21 million. Practically

speaking, Wilson is playing for free this season in Pittsburgh. For a chance to return to winning, he decided on the Steelers.

“I was fortunate to have several teams call, and all that, but this is the place that

I wanted to be,” he stated. “It’s an honor to wear the black and gold and be a Pittsburgh Steeler. It’s customary. It’s the past. Six trophies are in there, and we need to go get the seventh.
