CNN) — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that Cameron Sutton, a cornerback who is now wanted in Florida for suspected domestic violence by strangulation, was released by the Detroit Lions.

Before turning to social media to seek for assistance in locating Sutton, who has residences in Lutz, around 15 miles north of Tampa, and Pinellas County, the sheriff’s office claimed on Wednesday that it has tried to get in touch with the 29-year-old for two weeks.

Authorities said they haven’t been able to locate him at his dwellings and are unsure of if he has left the state.

The Lions declared on X that Sutton was released on Thursday.

A “verbal altercation turned physical” on March 7 prompted deputies to his Lutz house shortly before five in the morning ET, according to Phil Martello, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

According to Martello, the female victim had been beaten and suffered bruises to her head, neck, and upper torso.

CNN’s request for comment has not received a response from Sutton’s representative.

The victim and Sutton are not connected, according to the sheriff’s office, because this is a domestic abuse issue.

“Domestic violence has no place in our community, and nobody is above the law.” Martello continued, “We beg Sutton to surrender himself in.

According to the sheriff’s office, Sutton left the area after turning off his phone. According to the office on X, Sutton may be operating a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with license plate FL-AZ33QB.

According to Martello, “no tip is too small.” “Anyone with information is welcome to call 813-247-8200,” said our deputies.

The Lions had informed CNN in a statement on Wednesday morning that they had learned about Cam Sutton’s ongoing legal problem. We’ll keep an eye on things and won’t be making any more comments for the time being.

The seven-year veteran, who was selected by and played six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was scheduled to begin his second season with the NFC North champion Detroit Lions.

Sutton made 65 total tackles with one interception last season while starting all 17 of the Lions’ regular season games. In his three postseason games with the Lions, he also participated and recorded eight tackles.

Sutton attended Jonesboro, Georgia, for his high school education before playing collegiately at the University of Tennessee.
