Next month, Carlos Brathwaite, who emerged victorious in the West Indies encounter during the 2016 ICC T20 World Cup final in India, will be visiting the island to participate in the Bermuda Smash Invitational.

Along with Raymond Refer, Chandra Paul Hem raj, and Shamar Brooks, Brathwaite, 35, is one of four international cricket players selected for the first competition. His valiant efforts helped the West Indies defeat England by four wickets.

Shane Hollis, a member of the BSI board, believes the four players will light up the T20 competition’s debut.

In the upcoming weeks, these exceptional athletes will be selected by teams, according to Hollis.

Their participation in the competition will highlight the high standard of competitiveness that the Bermuda Smash Invitational seeks to attain.

“The greatest players in Bermuda combined with their abilities and elite experience will have cricket fans everywhere on the island and around the world on the edge of their seats.”

Undoubtedly, Brathwaite will be the main attraction at the four-team T20 tournament, which is expected to feature a lot of local talent, at the National Sports Centre’s North Field from May 15–19. It seems like an exciting event.

Similar to the Indian Premier League, there will be a live player draft at Ocean View Golf Club on May 10. Teams will choose 13 players, and local cricketers will have the opportunity to impress captains and coaches during a scouting combine on May 3 and 4.

The player draft will employ a tier structure, which will also serve as a guide for payment.

One of the tournament’s co-founders, Stephen Outer bridge, promised that all participants would get payment.

“We’re going to rate them and base payments on a tier system, similar to the IPL.”

“There will be a developing player as well as two tiers, A and B. Each level will  be on the same amount and all the players that are drafted will be on the same amount.”

Smith’s Sixers, led by Delray Rawlins, will be coached by Cleve Wade. Alongside coach Jeff Richardson, Kamau Lovelock, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, will lead Sandys Spartans.
