WTVY DOTHAN, AL – Alabama hospital billing procedures are contextualized by a recent poll.

Patient Rights Advocate asserts Six out of thirty statewide hospitals surveyed, or 20% of the total, comply with federal transparency criteria and implement those regulations.

This indicates that only those six hospitals notify potential patients of their costs prior to a procedure.

Patient Rights Advocate founder Cynthia Fisher remarked, “Who would want to pay more than $3,000 to $7,000 for an MRI when you know you can get all in and read by a great radiologist for $300.”

In order to help consumers make the best decisions for themselves, the watchdog group published a report that lists state institutions that adhere to price transparency and provides prices for a range of medical treatments.

“Because costs provide patients with recourse and remedies as well.” This is significant, particularly given how inflationary the times are right now. Fisher said, “Almost everyone has a personal tale of being overcharged for medical bills, whether it be for oneself or a family member.

Of the six hospitals in Alabama that complied, Flowers Hospital in Dothan and Medical Center Enterprise were two. Fisher stated that the ability for patients to compare costs across several hospitals is fantastic.

“We commend Flowers and the Medical Center Enterprise for sharing all of their rates on their websites.

Fisher stated that more work has to be done and that she intends to keep advocating for patients.

“Enough is enough. Hospitals and insurance firms are free to charge whatever they choose as long as they conceal their costs. Prices give customers accountability, honesty, and a market that can support consumer choice, competition, and welfare for everyone,” Fisher said.

Flowers Hospital issued the following statement:

“Flowers Hospital has taken great care to ensure that the information provided on our website complies with federal price transparency regulations. We also have resources available to assist patients in understanding and meeting their financial responsibilities.
