CNN) — According to a news release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, former NFL cornerback Cameron Sutton has turned himself in to Florida police over one month after a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of domestic abuse by strangulation.

Sutton surrendered himself on Sunday at 8:24 p.m. ET at the Orient Road Jail in Tampa, Florida, according to the sheriff’s office. According to the HCSO, Sutton’s lawyer informed the sheriff’s office last week that he intended to bring himself in.

Since March 7th, when they were called to Sutton’s Lutz, Florida house following a “verbal altercation turned physical,” authorities had been looking for him, according to a recent CNN report.

“After dodging police for weeks, this man has now made the correct to surrender himself,” “Domestic violence has no place in our community, and nobody is above the law here in Hillsborough County,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. As she recovers from this man’s horrific acts, my thoughts are with this woman.

The NFC North champion Detroit Lions revealed on X that Sutton, a seven-year NFL veteran, was released on March 21.

Sutton made 65 total tackles with one interception last season while starting all 17 of the Lions’ regular season games. In his three postseason games with the Lions, he also participated and recorded eight total tackles.

Sutton attended Jonesboro, Georgia, for high school before playing collegiately at the University of Tennessee.
