Police: Shoplifting suspects fleeing police cause rollover crash on I-43

Around 7:45 p.m. on April 8, PSP Troopers were on I-70WB when they reported seeing a red pickup truck approaching them quickly from behind. The pickup hesitated before passing them in the right lane while the troopers were driving an unmarked car at 75 mph in the left lane. PSP used emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop after the pickup veered back into the left lane at a speed of around 80 mph.

The red truck then reportedly picked up speed, reaching up to roughly 100 mph. As the car was approaching Breezewood at the intersection of I-70 and US-30, other troopers were able to break ahead of the pursuit and deploy spike strips over the roadway, successfully puncturing two of the car’s tires. However, the vehicle managed to drive through on its two surviving tires and then turned onto State Route 30, entering the Dollar General located on Lincoln Highway in Breezewood.
