Caitlin Clark of Iowa breaks “Pistol” Pete Maravich’s NCAA Division I scoring record on February 15. Clark surpassed 2017 leader Kelsey Plum’s 3,527 career points to become the highest career scorer for NCAA women on February 15.

Caitlin Clark became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I basketball two weeks after shattering the women’s record.

The leading player for the Iowa Hawkeyes needed to score eighteen points in Sunday’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes in order to surpass “Pistol Pete” Maravich’s record of 3,667 career points, which had stood for over fifty years. She also made NCAA basketball history as the highest-scoring player—male or female—with a free throw in the second quarter.

Clark had already scored 35 points by the time the final buzzer of Sunday’s game, which saw the Hawkeyes defeat the Buckeyes 93-83, rang out.

With 3,685 points, Clark’s Sunday total establishes a new NCAA scoring record.

Clark claimed in an interview with Fox reporter Allison Williams that she wasn’t thinking about the record until after the free throw that broke the scoring mark, “but then when they announced it and everybody screamed, that’s when I knew.”

In an interview with Williams following the game, Clark stated that her squad “came out and dominated” against the Buckeyes.

Clark remarked, “I’m just proud of our girls.” We had a great, commanding victory. We played pretty well, in my opinion.
