The mayor of Kansas City says the Chiefs aren’t “going anywhere.” “Both Teams Will Be In KCMO In 2040,” it states.

If a sales tax extension for upgrades to Arrowhead Stadium was not approved, the Kansas City Chiefs threatened to move out of the city.

Eric Johnson, the mayor of Dallas, saw an opening, though, and attempted to entice the Chiefs for personal political advantage.

In response, Kansas City mayor Quinton Lucas gave the populace the reassurance that the Chiefs will remain in Kansas City and that the city is committed to maintaining the Royals as well.

The Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium lease is set to expire in 2030. Lamar Hunt established the team initially in Dallas, and after the Texans played there for three seasons, they relocated to Kansas City.

Since Dallas refused to contribute public financing for a stadium and the Cotton Bowl deemed unsuitable as a permanent NFL stadium, the Dallas Cowboys have played their home games in the suburbs since 1971.

Mayor Lucas reaffirmed the intention to keep both clubs in Kansas City in the face of rumors.
