In response to Gary Neville’s “mafia gang” reaction to Nottingham Forest’s harsh post-match statement against Everton, the club may decide to take legal action against Sky Sports.

Both of the Toffees’ long-range goals—Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil—settled a 2-0 victory against the faltering team whose season has been severely impacted by point deductions.

But referee Anthony Taylor’s decision to reject three penalty requests, including a particularly noteworthy hand ball call involving Ashley Young in the final seconds of the first half, left Forest perplexed.

After losing, the East Midlands team resorted to Twitter to express their displeasure with Stuart Atwell’s selection as the game’s video assistant referee. The tweet was quite forceful.

“Three incredibly poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept,” the post says.

“Before the game, we informed the PGMOL that the VAR supports Luton, but they chose not to alter him. Many times, our patience has been put to the test. NFFC will now examine its alternatives.

While serving as a pundit for Sky Sports, Manchester United legend Gary Neville responded sharply to Forest’s statement. He implied that Forest’s assertion was “akin to a mafia-gang declaration,” and Jamie Carragher likened it to something a supporter might utter in a bar.

“It’s like a mafia-gang statement,” Neville remarked. What the hell are they playing at, really? Although Nottingham Forest has taken some tough decisions this season, I believe that everyone can sympathize with them in some manner because of the way they have handled things.

It’s embarrassing, like a whiny toddler. They will pay for some of the things they are saying, such as the implication of cheating because a VAR official supports Luton. In light of their past and current image, they will regret that as a football team. They will regret saying that since they’ve done it so successfully for so long.”

Neville’s remarks in particular have not been warmly received by the City Ground administration. As to Mail Online, Forest’s legal team is composing a letter sent to Neville’s present employers, Sky, concerning his remarks, and they are contemplating filing a lawsuit against the channel.

The controversy has continued since Forest made his first remarks. The club facing relegation has insisted on the release of the audio from the three penalty appeals that were denied.

Young, the Everton defender who was at the center of the debate over one of the choices, joked about the consequences of the decision in an Instagram story. On social media, he posted a picture of the Justin Timberlake song “Cry Me A River” along with the message “old skool tunes for today.”
