Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez are currently primarily threatened by Lando Norris, but Red Bull has long been the dominant power in Formula 1.

In Formula 1, the energy drink-sponsored team has been a dominant force, constantly finishing ahead of the field. But the struggle for supremacy behind them hasn’t been predicted at all, with the hierarchy changing regularly over the course of the previous season. This year has shown a little more consistency, with McLaren finishing a strong third and Ferrari emerging early as the main contenders. Mercedes, which is oddly only the fourth fastest, is under pressure from Aston Martin, their customer team.

However, Ferrari’s performance let off in Shanghai, where Norris emerged victorious in second position, besting both Ferrari drivers and Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez. Helmut Marko, an adviser for Red Bull, expressed his surprise in his Speedweek column. Marko observed: “There are ups and downs between the competitors behind Red Bull Racing. That makes me happy. Because that implies that if someone else consistently finishes behind us, our lead grows,” the Mirror writes.

“We were shocked to see that Lando Norris led McLaren by two points this time around in China. Ferrari was supposed to be more powerful. However, they were unable to come anywhere near the top three on the long runs, qualifying, or the races.”
