Following months of conjecture, the Patriots selected North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the third overall choice in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, doing as most people had predicted.

However, they had some excellent options if they had decided to trade down: The Patriots were reportedly promised multiple first-round picks by the Giants and the Vikings, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

As per the report, the Giants made an offer that included the sixth overall pick and their 2025 first-round selection, while the Vikings offered the third overall pick, two mid-round selections, and their 2025 first-round selection in exchange for the eleventh and twenty-third overall picks.

The Giants have made it known that they support Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback; but, their desire to advance to Maye shows that, had they been able to complete the trade, they would have preferred to let go of Jones. After moving up to No. 10, the Vikings were happy to acquire J.J. McCarthy, but they were probably hoping to move up higher for Maye.

The Patriots now want to see Maye perform at a caliber that makes them happy they declined those offers.
